Here is a funny advertisement from the UK based on some cultural differences between the British and the Chinese. I’m not sure about the statement in the video about Chinese host feeling like their generosity is being questioning their generosity when the guests clear their plate though. Never heard that one before.
Still, when people from different cultures interact, it can create some interesting scenarios, like Pastor Ed’s Halloween story.
Do you have any personal stories to share about this?

In Taiwan, Kan Lee took a group of his peers and my peers to a back-country restaurant where he proceeded to order everything for us. The meal consisted of sauteed ferns, wild boar, free range chicken, and some chewy meat which I took to be oyster or some sort of shellfish. Only later did Kan tell us that he had ordered a plate of FROG STOMACH!
This video is hilarious!! I heard about that Chinese custom before, but not sure if anyone still practice it besides people mainland China.
My mom cooks it often. I guess a lot of Chinese food are weird to non-Chinese or even Chinese Americanized people, like swallow’s nest, bird saliva, snake soup, etc. What is really nasty is the brothers eating scorpion/insects in Cambodia!
… I ate a whole frog with steam rice before, Steve. It’s really delicious esp with Chinese sausages.
Well, this is because Chinese people fear that they are not serving enough food if their guests clear the plate. In a culture were the main events revolves around eating, hosts generally want to fill the guest up until there are food left over, which indicate that they are full.
